International Student Competition
IN THE FIELDS OF URBANIZATION AND ARCHITECTURE |
The aim of this competition is to choose the best written or visual expression of the representatives of younger generations who carry, understand and present the ideas of Kemal Ahmet ARU to the present day in his 100th anniversary of birth.
Through this competition organized in the 100th birth anniversary of Kemal Ahmet Aru, it is aimed to bring Aru and younger generations together, to introduce Aru's ideas and practices in urbanism and architecture to younger generations, and to convey his approaches to the future through the perspective and values of today.
In order to pay tribute to Kemal Ahmet Aru and his works in urban planning and architecture, participants are expected to utilize visual, verbal and other narrative techniques, and to submit entries that originate from the following concepts:
Entries of the competition, which are guided by the concepts listed above, can be submitted in two separate formats. Competitors can prepare their work in paper or poster format (by selecting one) in the listed themes above. a. Article Format (between 3000-5000 words)
Entries in this format should be submitted in .doc format. The manuscripts should be typed on A-4 paper, using double-line spacing and Arial font size 11 pt (bibliography is not included in total word count). Figures, graphs and tables can be included in the manuscripts.
All images, artworks and photos should be in 300 dpi resolution, .jpeg, .tiff or .eps format, and should be separately submitted in digital format. 5-digit alias, formed of numbers and/or letters, should be indicated on the upper right corner of each page of the document. There should not be any indication of identification on the documents. b. Poster Format (A1 size, color or black and white): Participants of this format should prepare their entries in .jpeg, .tiff or .eps formats. They must indicate 5-digit aliases in the upper right corner of the poster.
5-digit alias, formed of numbers and/or letters, should be indicated on the upper right corner of the posters. There should not be any indications of the identity of the participants on the posters.
Participants in this category are, also, expected to submit a summary text between 500-800 words briefly explaining their works. The summary text should be typed on A-4 paper, using double-line spacing and Arial font size 11 pt. 5-digit alias should be indicated on the upper right corner of each page of the summary text.
The competition is open to individual or teams of students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate (master's and doctorate) programs in urban planning and architecture at international institutions that are recognized by the Higher Education Council of Turkey.
Participants are required to submit student identification documents approved by their education institution along with their submission documents. In addition to their entries, participants are required to submit documents that indicate their official enrollment status, which needs to be approved by the institutions.
Students should be under the age of 30 at the time of registration.
Each participant and/or group can submit only one entry.
Entry to the competition is free of charge.
The entries can be submitted in Turkish or English.
Submission of the competition in both formats should apply the following: For Article Format; Five hard copies and one digital copy in a CD should be submitted. For Poster Format; One A-1 size and three A-3 size hard copies should be submitted in addition to five hard copies of summary report. All documents should be submitted in a CD (.doc format for text documents; . jpeg, .tiff or .eps formats for poster) as well. All images, pictures and photographs used in the text should be at 300 dpi .jpeg, .tiff or .eps format.
Participants will submit their personal information and identification statements, which will be consisted of their identity and contact information (name, address, telephone number, mobile phone number, and e-mail address), in a sealed envelope and 5-digit numbers and/or alias should be stated on the envelope. Incomplete and irrelevant submissions will not be accepted.
Participants must provide all necessary documents in a sealed and appropriate sized packages and must deliver by hand or via mail to "ITU Urban and Environmental Planning and Research Center, Faculty of Architecture, Taşkışlala Building, Room No: 114, 34437, Taksim, Istanbul". The entries must be delivered by no later than October 12th, 2012, 5:30pm.
